President & Chief Executive Officer
View BioRyan A. Schroeder, 49, joined Eastern in 2024. Prior to joining Eastern, Mr. Schroeder most recently served as CEO at Plaskolite LLC, a manufacturer of engineering thermoplastics, from 2020 through 2023. Prior to that, Mr. Schroeder spent four years as President, Americas for IMI Norgren, a manufacturer of motion and fluid control products, from 2016 to 2020, and prior to joining IMI Norgren, he served in a variety of roles at Parker Hannifin, a diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems for a variety of mobile, industrial and aerospace markets, from 2004 to 2016, including general manager of the hydraulic valve division, general manager of the hydraulic pump motor division as well as business unit manager, plant manager and supply chain manager of the company’s hydraulic cylinder division. He earned an MBA from the Carlson School of Management and a BA from Michigan State University.
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
View BioMr. Nicholas A. Vlahos, aged 41, has been with The Eastern Company since 2017. Mr. Vlahos has served as the Company’s Chief Financial Officer since February 2023. Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Vlahos held a senior leadership role as Vice President of Finance, Treasurer and Secretary of the Company with effective oversight of the Company’s financial reporting, tax, insurance, and benefit plans. Additionally, during his tenure, Mr. Vlahos provided support to division operations and Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures activities. Mr. Vlahos joined the Company in 2017 as Treasurer. Prior to The Eastern Company, Mr. Vlahos served as Director of Finance, Accounting and Human Resources at Fisher Technology Inc., the North American division of Helmut Fischer GmbH, the market leader for manufacturing of coating thickness and material measurement equipment. Prior to joining Fischer Technology, Inc., Mr. Vlahos served as Controller and General Manager for Inframat Corporation, a research and development contractor for the US Government. Mr. Vlahos holds an MBA and a BA from Central Connecticut State University.
President, Eberhard Manufacturing
View BioZachary Gorny has been President of Eberhard Manufacturing since December 2024. Before joining the Eastern Company, Zack was Vice President & General Manager at IMI Plc since 2017. IMI Plc is a publicly traded diversified industrial manufacturing company, that focuses on engineered solutions for a broad range of markets. At IMI Plc, Zack was an executive member of the Transportation Sector leading the Americas region and Global Operations and Supply Chain, where he successfully grew the business, improved operating profits, and implemented innovative strategies to enhance organizational performance globally. Prior to joining IMI Plc, Zack had broad experience in leadership at public manufacturing companies including, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Dover Corporation, and Schindler Elevator Corporation. Zack brings a wealth of experience in sales, operations, supply chain, and lean management. His leadership track record includes driving profitable growth, streamlining operations, and aligning company culture with corporate strategies. Zack holds an MBA from DePaul University and a B.S. Supply Chain Management degree from Arizona State University.
President & CEO, Velvac
View BioDan W. McGrew has a proven track record of implementing Lean to improve shareholder value, including his tenure at Velvac starting in 2013, first serving as Vice President of Operations and then as Chief Operating Officer. He led Velvac’s Lean transformation in the manufacturing facility in Reynosa, Mexico, and the Aftermarket parts business in New Berlin, Wisconsin, with support from the Lean Enterprise Institute and Shingo-certified consultants. In his previous assignment, Dan was the Director of Mexican Operations for Esselte Corporation with production facilities in Reynosa, Matamoros, and Mexico City, as well as multiple cross-border warehouses and inventory management responsibility of finished goods warehouses in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Esselte’s Chairman, CEO, and Senior Leadership Team were former Wiremold employees who supported the Esselte Lean transformation by providing Consultants from Shingijutsu and Moffit Associates. Starting in 1981, Dan’s career doing business in Mexico and the US has spanned 5 decades, and he has experience in all facets of operating international businesses in the NAFTA region. He was on the Board of Directors for INDEX Reynosa, the local Maquiladora Association, for over 15 years, including three as President and served four years as Vice President on the Board of Directors of CNIMME, the national Maquiladora Association, whose member companies employ over 2 million workers. His education includes a BS degree in Business Management from the University of Pittsburgh and graduate studies at Duquesne University.
President, Big 3 Precision Products
View BioEmilio Ruffolo has been President of Big 3 Precision Products since January 2025. Before joining the Eastern Company, Emilio began his professional career with DaimlerChrysler and further gained broad manufacturing leadership experience with CNHindustrial, Metalex, and Eberhard Manufacturing. Emilio brings a well-rounded understanding of a multitude of business areas which have propelled his growth from Production Supervision and Sr. Financial Analyst positions into leadership roles including Project and Continuous Improvement Management, Multisite and Plant Complex Manager, and his most recent role, Sr. Director of Global Operations with Eberhard. Emilio’s high degree of business acumen and forward-thinking entrepreneurial mindset can be attributed to his upbringing in a family-owned business. His experiences have afforded him the opportunity to witness and understand the advantages and challenges of different-sized company profiles and how to best navigate through situational awareness. His leadership track record includes operational optimization, a driving continuous improvement mindset, and championing a strong company culture for the future. Emilio holds a BS in Business Management and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Co-President, Velvac
View BioMatthew P. Weir joins The Eastern Company as Co-President of the Velvac division, bringing more than 25 years of experience leading industrial and manufacturing organizations. He is known for a steady, servant-minded leadership style and a consistent focus on safety, customer relationships, and disciplined execution.Most recently, Matt served as Director of Operations at MiddleGround Capital, supporting portfolio companies representing more than $500 million in revenue. He worked alongside executive teams to implement value creation plans, strengthen leadership benches, improve working capital performance, and support acquisition integration efforts—all with a practical, hands-on approach.Previously, Matt spent nearly two decades with Parker Hannifin in a series of operational and general management roles. He led divisions ranging from $130 million to over $300 million in revenue, focusing on lean transformation, employee engagement, customer experience, and steady earnings improvement. Across assignments, he emphasized building strong teams, simplifying operations, and delivering reliable performance for customers and shareholders.Matt began his career with Delphi and General Motors in engineering and operations leadership roles. He holds an MBA and a Master of Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
President & Chief Executive Officer, Director, Member of the Pension Investment Review Committee
Mr. August M. Vlak, also known as Gus, has been Chief Executive Officer and President at The Eastern Company since January 1, 2016. At Eastern, he has been focused on creating long term shareholder value by growing the business and improving capital allocation. Prior to joining Eastern, Gus was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and Katzenbach Partners and, most recently, he was a Senior Advisor to Barington Capital Group. He was also an Investment Banker with Lehman Brother’s Health Care Banking Group. Gus holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Amherst College, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
